Haala Ga Taa Restaurant

Now open, our Haala Ga Taa restaurant/cafe (the Eating House) is a place where visitors can experience traditional Haida cuisine and food preparation.  The cafe exemplifies the importance of food to the Haida - the importance of our lands and waters that provides bounty for our ceremonial feasts where the Haida generously share their food.

The Eating House includes:

• A food prep/cook area that is visually accessible
• A glass front that opens to an extended cedar deck for eating outside and enjoying the panoramic view of Skidegate Inlet
• A salmon barbeque area and traditional steam pit outside

Hours of Operation:

• Monday to Friday 10:00am to 6:00pm (full restaurant)
• Weekends 10:00 am to 5:00pm (full restaurant)
• Take-out window is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm

The two meeting rooms in the Centre and the Performing House are available for rental for meetings, seminars, classes, functions and special events.

Meeting/Classroom 1:  This room is 720 sq. ft and can accommodate up to 35 people.   The room includes a white board, projector, projection screen, DVD/VCR player, wall speakers and lap top connection capabilities.   The space is ideal for multimedia presentations, lectures, classes, meetings and workshops.

Meeting/Classroom 2:  This 720 sq. ft multi-purpose room can also accommodate up to 35 people.   Ideally this area is suited for seminars, workshops, meetings, classes, negotiations and presentations.

Performing House:  This 4800 sq. ft indoor amphitheatre can seat up to 250 people.   The room is designed like a traditional Haida style dugout longhouse.   Large sliding doors at each side of the house provide privacy within the space.   The entire area is covered in cedar planks and posts providing an awe-inspiring setting ideal for presentations, ceremonies, weddings, performances, announcements and other special events.   The area has already hosted wedding receptions, an opera, a Haida theatre play, welcoming ceremonies, and slide show/video presentations.
