Gwaii Haanas Connections

A Parks Canada gallery celebrates how Gwaii Haanas – as a National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site – is uniquely connected. Enjoy the interactive touch-screen technology and more traditional exhibits in this gallery.

  • Gwaii Haanas, located in South Morseby, is protected through the cooperation of the Council of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada.
  • The establishment of the proposed Gwaii Haanas National Marine Conservation Area Reserve will mean Gwaii Haanas will be one of the very few places in the world protected from mountaintop to deep sea.
  • Ecological and cultural integrity is fostered through scientific and traditional knowledge and expertise.
  • Haida voices direct decision-making, and traditional ways of life continue.
  • Skidegate Haida Gwaii Watchmen are stewards of Gwaii Haanas and have protected the ancient Haida village sites since the early 1980s.

Cycles

Any living thing is part of one or many cycles, and is dependent on something else. This area will explore some cycles of which we all are a part, and by which we are affected. It will also communicate the importance of caring properly for the gifts of nature.

  • From Sea to Land to Sky
  • Natural
  • Supernatural
  • Influence on our lives
  • Interdependence between everything
  • Seasons and Annual Migrations
  • Life and Death
  • Food Chains
  • Introduced Species; effects of introduced species on indigenous plants
  • Uniqueness of Haida Gwaii
  • Paleontology; historical cycles
Everything
depends on everything else.

  • Introduction of HLGAA GWAAY (Lyell Island) story and the need to protect our lands and waters (story featured mainly on film in the Performing House, but also in exhibit form)
